Edgar Ramirez, star of Warner Bros.’ upcoming “Point Break” remake, is in talks to join Emily Blunt, Rebecca Ferguson and Haley Bennett in the adaptation of the Paula Hawkins’ best-selling novel “The Girl on the Train.”
Jared Leto and Chris Evans are also in talks to board the pic.
The story follows a woman (Blunt) devastated by her recent divorce who spends her commute fantasizing about a seemingly perfect married couple who live in a house that her train passes every day. Along the way, she becomes entangled in a mystery revolving around the couple.
If the deal goes through, Ramirez would play a therapist, Dr. Kamal Abdic, who is involved in an affair with the married Megan (Bennett).
Tate Taylor is directing from Cressida Wilson’s script. Marc Platt will produce the film, while Jared LeBoff of Marc Platt Prods. will serve as executive producer.
In addition to “Point Break,” Ramirez can next be seen in 20th Century Fox’s “Joy” where he will play Jennifer Lawrence’s husband, and the Weinstein Co.’s “Gold” opposite Matthew McConaughey. Also in the pipeline is “Hands of Stone,” in which he co-stars with Robert De Niro.
Ramirez is repped by CAA, Impression Entertainment and attorney Bob Wallerstein. The news was first reported by Deadline Hollywood.
