Bruce Willis, Emily Blunt, Joseph Gordon-Levitt In ‘Looper’

We were a big fan of Rian Johnson’s teen noir Brick (albeit less of his indulgent Rachel Weisz-as-manic-pixie-dream-girl joint The Brothers Bloom), and it’s nice to see dude going futuristic, especially with these stars. FilmDistrict has just bought the rights to Johnson’s sci-fi Looper, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who played the protagonist in Brick, plus Bruce Willis, Emily Blunt and Paul Dano.

The Looper plot, via The Wrap:

Willis and Gordon-Levitt play the same character at different points in time. The film is set in the future, when a crime syndicate sends its victims back in time to be killed and disposed of. Gordon-Levitt plays the killer, but who then learns that one target, Willis, is a future version of himself.

Okay, so this sounds kind of like a meta-Minority Report. We trust Rian Johnson’s instincts, but we kinda wonder what Emily Blunt’s role is in the film. She told MTV’s movie blog that she plays “a really tough girl, sort of Midwestern, lives on a farm, [who] wields an ax and shoots a gun…” and describesLooper as set in a “post-apocalypto time travel, time-traveling world where it’s a dog-eat-dog world… And it’s set in sort of 2050 or 2060, that sort of time, when the world has gone to s***.”

Assuming the world doesn’t end on May 21st, 2011, we’ll check out Looper. You?
